Before you know it, school will be out and families will be traveling the highways and back roads to their vacation spot. In order to have a safe and secure trip, start planning ahead. Once a destination or route is known, check for lodging and restaurants and find out if there are any interesting attractions along the way. It would be a shame to miss out on seeing some of America’s history if your route takes you near to one of the many sites. Plan your trip so that you have extra time to explore. On a tight budget? Many places have free admission or a small nominal charge ($2-$5). Check out the National and State parks. Also, stop at Welcome Centers and toll road rest stops. They have plenty of regional information, maps, brochures and coupons. Rest areas and some family restaurants along Interstate highways usually have coupon books for hotels and motels and some have attraction brochures.

Many States now have security guards or police at their main rest areas. However, it is a good idea to carry pepper spray and personal alarms. Stow and auto emergency kit in your car or at least have an auto emergency tool. Personal alarms and small home alarms can be used to secure your belongings and also your motel room. You can hang one on a doorknob that will sound if anyone tries to enter your room. A very versatile alarm is the UFO Alarm. It can act as a burglar, entry or personal alarm plus it has a bright flashlight. For those with RVs or campers, personal alarms can be used to protect your belongings and secure the RV. The Ultimate Vehicle Safety Kit from SafeFamilyLife has an excellent collection of “tools” for travel safety.

As for camping, be sure to have some bear repellent. There are special sprays to repel bears as they require a stronger formula than the pepper spray for humans. Your best bet for storing food is to lock it in a vehicle. If you can’t do that (backpacking), make sure everything is in sealed containers such as zip lock bags. Try to keep the odor of food from permeating the air. Carry and use an insect repellent. There are many on the market but get one that will repel ticks and chiggers, too. You can use small alarms in strategic places to alert you during night or day. Many are loud enough that you can hear them over 1/4 mile away in case you are hiking.

The safest trip is a well prepared one. Have a GPS or maps, check your vehicle, make a list of the necessities and medications you’ll need, and check your credit cards to make sure they are current. And, don’t forget a First Aid kit. You can get Traveler’s checks (recommended) or carry extra cash. To secure them, get some Diversion Safes. The safes come in various containers that are exact replicas of items like brand name food containers and the usual items kept in a car.

If you are alert and prepared, you and your family can just relax and enjoy the experiences awaiting you.

Some people only feel secure to leave the confines of their homes when they have all their diabetes supplies with them. Here are the contents of a diabetes kit you should have when on the road. They are enough to prepare you for the many possible situations you can encounter when you step out of your house.

Remember that there are several diabetes supplies you should always have within reach like the following:

Glucose meter

You can not think of leaving the house without your meter. In fact, even if it’s just a walk on the park or to the grocery store, you must have a way to keep it with you. That’s because among the diabetes supplies, this allows you to check your blood sugar which is very important.

Extra battery for meter and insulin pump

I it is not reliable to look for a shop where you can purchase extra batteries because glucose meter batteries differ by manufacturer. If you forget to have a spare, you should at least know the type of battery your meter uses. Insulin pumps on the other hand will most likely tell you when it’s already running out of power which makes it easier for you to change batteries.

Test strips

One of the diabetes supplies you should have an ample amount of in your kit are test strips just in case you need to test more than you have anticipated.

Lancing device and lancets

Think of the number of tests you would be conducting in a day and make that the least basis for the amount of lancets you will need. It is advised to not make a habit of reusing lancets since it becomes non-sterile after a use and increases the discomfort.

Insulin

Don’t forget your insulin and an insulin bag with cold packs to keep them cool in a warm weather.

Syringes

Take more than the average number of syringes you would need for an entire day.

Keytone strips

These are most convenient when you are on the road rather than at home. Take the ones wrapped in foil because they last longer.

Glucagon emergency kit

This comes in handy when your blood sugar suddenly drops so low that you become unconscious or unable to swallow. Your companions must be taught how to use such device.

Fast-acting glucose

A small amount of this is already good. Carry one anywhere you go in case you have a low blood sugar reaction. You can shop for glucose tablets or gels to suit specific needs. You can always keep them in your purse or coat pocket, brief case or testing kit.

Papers

Two of the most essential travel papers you should have apart from your passport are your health history papers and some sort of identification card. These are useful when you face emergency situations because they alert medical personnel to address your diabetes needs immediately. For more information visit to our site at https://www.edgepark.com

It is complicated to predict everything you may need on a spree with a newborn. You most likely won’t want most of the added things you’ll be stuffing, but if it’s a necessity, you’ll dread the thought of leaving without it.

Packing the Bare Essentials

Okay, so you are perhaps going to need a lot of baby food, pacifiers, diapers, formula, and some clothes for changing, and so on, right? Horde all that things, but pack twice that amount in so far as you think you’ll need.

You’ll wish to take all you need to make your baby at ease and portable all through your trip. Definitely, get the car seat on top of your child’s much loved sling or carrier – plus a baby carriage that is compressed and disintegrates easily.

You particularly won’t wish to hold back on on diapers. Bundle plenty of wipes, too, as they are brilliant for cleaning up and wiping sticky hands. A tiny container of hand disinfectant should come in handy, also.

You’ll want to ensure you have ample of refreshments for your kids, plus some protein-based munchies for you. I constantly hide a bag of uncooked nuts in my handbag. From time to time, if I have been too hectic to eat a full meal, these are precisely what I could do with to get me throughout to the next time I can be seated down for a minute. Walnuts, cashews, and pecans are perfect. Trail mix is wonderful for this, as well.

A reminder on baby formula when traveling by plane: As of this point in time while I was writing this article, airports will not let citizens to carry in excess of three ounces of a liquid on a plane in their hand carried luggage. They might make an exemption for baby formula, but don’t rely on it. It’s advisable to carry powdered formula and blend it with warm water on the plane. The flight stewardess should be agreeable to give bottled water and boil it up for you.

Packing the Not-so Bare Essentials

Apparently, you can pay no attention to a few of this things if it doesn’t concern to your travel plans, but don’t miss out on anything else.

Amusement for your Baby

Regardless of your baby’s age, she will end up getting really, really bored stiff on extended car rides or plane trip. Make an effort to plan travel around your child’s nap or sleeping hours, but don’t rely on it to work out flawlessly. Carry toys, activity books, and anything else your kid loves to have fun with. You might feel like surprising her with a few latest toys just for the trip, as well.

Kid’s Passport

Don’t overlook that all children (even newborns) have to have passports before they can fly internationally.

Emergency Kit

Toss your full baby medicine cabinet in your handbag, together with rubbing alcohol and band-aids for minor cuts, and ensure your baby is accurately vaccinated prior to taking off. We all have a resistance built up to local viruses, but traveling lengthy distances can set up the immune system to latest diseases. Be ready. Tell your physician where you’re leaving and ask for the necessary vaccines.

A Good Book

This item is for you. Most time used up in traveling with an infant is going to be devoted to comforting your child’s strain from the continuous changes. Babies can take pleasure in traveling, but it’s taxing nevertheless, so you may fancy having a good book at hand for lengthy stretches of cuddling and snoozing.

Just like packing your suitcase, take the time to prepare for wearing your hair systems or hair extensions away from home … perfectly!

Hair replacement specialists agree that you really must take care of hair you wear … especially when on vacation or while traveling because things could go wrong. Whether you are traveling for business or for leisure, you definitely want to avoid any bad hair days or emergencies. A great rule of thumb is to have your hair serviced and styled as close as possible to the time you leave for your trip. This way you get to learn any limitations of the hair system you have and make adjustments, advises Lisa Lewis, certified Hair Replacement Specialist and owner of Wiggit II in Clovis, CA. “I always give my clients a prescription card with every purchase or service that instructs them on the limitations of their hair systems as well as how to care for them and what to do in case of emergencies,” says Lewis emphatically. Jeanne Sheldon, owner of Allusions Hair Restoration Studio in Cincinnati, OH agrees that clients should get advice from their hair replacement specialist on the type of attachment they have depending on the activity level of their trip, too.

Be hair-aware!

Hair replacement specialists agree that you always have to be mindful of your hair, how it is attached, and what type of hair and hair systems you use when travelling. For example, explains Lewis,” If you have synthetic hair, you can’t just jump into a Jacuzzi or lounge around in a sauna because your hair may melt!” And with hair extensions, it’s widely known that a lot of water activities and/or washing puts stress on the attachments because of the weight of the water. Mimi Miller, a Hair Enhancement Specialist at Evolve Salon in Las Vegas, NV, actually prefers to use synthetic curly or wavy hair extensions for clients with that type of style who are going on vacation because they don’t need to be styled, they hold their shape well, and they’re so inexpensive that they can be discarded when the client returns from her trip.

Jeanne Sheldon advises sunscreen for your hair systems. “Hair color can oxidize under sun and chlorine exposure faster, so pack a sunscreen hair spray to prevent any possible color fade.” Lewis advises clients to protect their long hair systems and style by braiding it together or putting it all into a pretty bun and to protect it from the sun by wearing a hat. And Miller adds, “I also recommend that my clients wrap their heads in a scarf to prevent lift and tangling while sleeping, especially in humid climates. And, if they will be swimming in the ocean I advise them to apply a leave-in conditioner and a detangler both before AND after swimming in the ocean or pool.” The experts agree that you have to be careful around the ocean because activity and salt content can activate tangling and pulling on the hair system.

“Hairspray is the worst. Avoid wearing a lot of hairspray if you’re going in the ocean because saltwater and hairspray combined cause the worst tangles,” cautions Miller. “Another issue is your destination. Many times if you are travelling from a cooler climate to hot, you’ll notice your hair system begin to lift, or adhesive can melt and drip out a little. Luckily it can be removed with a little alcohol on a toothbrush or orangewood stick (Never use a cotton ball which just sticks to it more!) and adhesive is tacky so it will re-stick if you just push down on it!”

So take precautions to enjoy your vacation… and your hair! But experts agree, see your hair replacement specialist as soon as you return to clean, freshen, repair, and re-attach any loose ends!

The Hair Replacement Emergency Kit

Always carry these four essentials to avoid hair disasters whenever you travelling, says Lisa Lewis:

1. A Prescription/Care Card for your hair system.
2. Bobby pins to hold hair extensions up if one comes loose.
3. Tiny rubber bands if braids come undone or to hold hair extensions in place.
4. Adhesive, tape, and/or clips in case hair system repairs are necessary.
5. If you have to bring alcohol, liquid adhesive or other solvent, be aware of the airport rules for carrying these liquids. Many airlines do not allow liquids to be stored in glass.

If you wear hair systems or hair extensions and you travel, make sure to look up hair replacement centers that are close to your destination. Call in advance and know their operating hours and contact information in case of an emergency.

The one thing in the world that none of us ever want to have to experience is having our car break down. It is unfortunate that our vehicles tend to malfunction when we least expect it. When your car breaks down, there are several things that you want to have before hand just in case. After all, it is better to be safe than sorry, right? That being said, when you have a car, you should always make sure that you have a little emergency kit packed and stowed somewhere in your vehicle for emergency situations.

In my own Jeep, I have a cheap plastic bin with a cover on it that I keep in the trunk area at all times. Inside of this bin is what I refer to as my emergency kit. Inside of the kit are: a pair of sweatpants, a sweatshirt, a couple of pairs of socks, gloves, an ice scraper, a first aid kit, a car kit (with a flashlight, camera, flares, etc.), a poncho, a couple of airplane blankets, and extra pair of sneakers, a couple of bottles of water, some dry, non-perishable food and a road atlas. Now, there are some people who may think that I am overdoing it when I tell them that I have all of these things packed, but the truth of the matter is that I spend a lot of time in my car on the road traveling long distances. For instance, because I am close to my family, I will often make a trip up to New York from North Carolina to see them. Additionally, I also go out to visit my grandmother who lives three hours away in another part of the state.

To give another example of why it is always a good idea to have an emergency kit with you when you travel; if you remember, a few years ago, North Carolina was hit with a pretty bad ice storm. The ice storm caused a lot of damage to power lines and knocked trees over, causing a great deal of property damage. However, when all of this weather began, people were rushing out of work early to get to their homes. The state of North Carolina was not prepared for the weather, and the roadways had not been salted. I was on my way back from Durham, NC and should’ve been home in what would normally have been a thirty minute drive. However, because of the heavy amount of traffic and the freezing snow that was falling, I wound up being stuck on the road for over eight hours!

I was only too thankful that I had enough gasoline to get me home, but in the meantime, I was starving. While I sat in what was ultimately a parking lot of traffic, I quickly ran around to my trunk and retrieved a couple of snacks and a bottle of water. Had I not been smart and filled up my Jeep with gasoline, I may have ran out of gas (like many other people did). In that case, I would have at least had a couple of blankets, gloves and sweatpants to throw on. You just never know, which is why it is smart to pack an emergency kit!

Traveling by car might not be as quick fast as taking a plane, but it is still the most widespread method of getting from one place to another, even when long distances are involved. It’s not always very relaxing comfortable or enjoyable to ride in a vehicle for long period of time, no matter what your schedule is. Whether one is on a business trip or is heading for a favorite vacation spot, here are some tips to make the trip a little comfortable and easy.

Be prepared.

While everyone expects to have a safe trip, this is not always the case. One might want to have a membership with AAA and make sure that one’s car insurance covers everything that might take place on the trip, including another driver if one plans on switching off. This will not prevent problems with the vehicle, but it will certainly make things less worrying if one knows that everything is covered. Under the same category, one should make sure that one has a car emergency kit on hand, as well as a spare tyre.

Take breaks.

It is very good to take halts in the journey. Take the time to stop and straighten your legs at least once every few hours. This will avoid cramping later on and will get the blood flowing, which will help one keep awake on those long tiresome stretches

Invest in a nicer seat.

If one travels regularly in his car, he’ll really like a nice cushy seat. There are many alternatives available in the market, from the ordinary wooden bead seat covers to padded ones that your bones will thank you for after quite a few hours of driving. While the driver generally needs the best seat since it’s not actually possible to shift around while driving.

Bring entertainment.

Just because you are driving doesn’t mean you can’t have fun

Music gets unexciting after a while, so think about bringing along some audio books of an interview or seminar you’ve wanted to listen to. Some people even learn new languages while on long road trips. And if you have children kids, a DVD is a must to keep wrangling to a minimum.

Plan your stops.

There’s nothing worse than hitting the point of fatigue only to understand realize that there are no hotels for miles. By planning beforehand and deciding where to stop for the night on each leg of your journey, one will have a much more enjoyable trip and can schedule stops at points before one gets too tired to continue driving.

Wondering how to make this year’s car trip to Grandma’s a safe and happy experience? A little extra time and planning can save you hassle, money, even your life.

Rest up. Before you even get in your car, try to get a good night’s sleep, don’t stay up all night packing or baking those extra cookies. Driver fatigue is a major cause of car wrecks, and filling up on coffee or energy drinks won’t take the place of being well rested. In fact, once the caffeine wears off, you’re at risk for a bigger crash, in more ways than one! Try not to leave right after a heavy meal, when most of us get sleepy, especially if you’ve been drinking alcoholic beverages.

Plan well. There are many resources out there that will provide you with information on the best routes to take, the best times to avoid commuter traffic, and weather related road conditions. Check out the Federal Highway Administration’s web site for links to information on weather and road conditions and the availability of travel web sites and 511 telephone services. If at all possible, try to drive during daylight hours when visibility is at its best.

Check up. Make sure your vehicle is safe. Check the oil, tire pressure, coolant, etc. a day or two before you travel. Don’t leave it until the last minute when you might forget something important. Make sure you have a good spare tire, jumper cables and an emergency kit. If you’re traveling in cold weather, a blanket or two in the trunk could be a lifesaver.

Bring activities. If traveling with kids (or adults who act like them) bring along plenty of activities to occupy their time. You might want to stick with quieter games and books; do you really want to listen to that Gameboy chirping at you for 8 hours? But remember, this is a great time for family interaction, don’t just set them up with a movie and ignore them the whole trip.

Wear your seat belt. (Do we really have to go over this?)

Take breaks!! It’s recommended you take a break every 2 hours or 100 miles. This is particularly essential when traveling with kids or pets. It’s also a good time to switch off drivers to further avoid fatigue. Stop for food instead of grabbing drive-through and eating on the go. Eating while driving is just as big a distraction as phoning, texting, or arguing with the back seat.

Don’t text. Let a passenger answer your cell phone or wait to return calls and texts when you are at a rest stop. Many states have outlawed phoning and texting while driving, so it isn’t just unsafe, it’s illegal. Drivers who use cell phones are four times as likely to get into crashes serious enough to injure themselves.

It doesn’t take much to prepare for a holiday driving trip. If you follow these easy steps you’ll find your drive will go much smoother. Imagine arriving at Grandma’s with a smile on your face because of a smooth, safe, fun experience instead of a frown of frustration, or worse, not arriving at all.

There is always some risk in traveling. You can never be too careful once you step out of your comfort zone & step into the big world. Traveling to places you have never been to & are not familiar with doubles the risk. Though it is not entirely unsafe, it is still better to be prepared than sorry.

That is why it is imperative that you get a good insurance policy to cover you on your travels. Insurance is your safety net away from they comfort of you home & the protective arms of mom & dad. Having a good insurance policy means getting coverage on medical, dental & airline failures.

A large bulk of travelers is students wanting to explore more of the world & venture into the unknown. Students are usually more ready to do plenty of things that other vacationers & travelers are too timid to try. Backpacking & many sports adventures usually draw more participants from the student crowd than anywhere else. This is one important reason why would-be student travelers need to consider a good insurance policy. But sometimes, insurance policies are a bit expensive & students are prompted to drop them & in the same way, hey also fail to safeguard their well-being.

Unknown to many students, there are cheap student travel insurance policies that offer commendable coverage. There are even separate insurance policies for certain activities that most students do when traveling like, backpackers insurance or ski travel insurance. These specialized insurance policies cover many of the possible medical needs usually incurred in such activities.

Cheap student travel insurance is a must for any student planning to travel. The world is a large place & a lot of unexpected things can happen. Travel & vacation is a momentous event that should be completely enjoyable & fun-filled. But just in case mishaps happen, it is better to have an insurance policy, even if it means getting a cheap student travel insurance.

Getting cheap student travel insurance is as important as making sure you have all your important documents in place. You must keep in mind that your passport is your lifeline when you are abroad. That is your identity & you should always keep it with you. Aside from that, it is also advisable to have a small emergency kit with you all the time, you never know when you are going to need a gauze pad or pain relievers. Sewing tools & a Swiss knife are handy implements that you must always keep with you especially if you plan to do a lot of outdoors stuff like backpacking & camping. Nothing is worse than running on an empty stomach & finding out you do no have a can opener to open that can of corned beef.

The first place or address you should familiarize yourself with when you are abroad is the location of your embassy. If anything happens, it is best to know where you can run & find friendly & accommodating people to help you. Of course, if you plan on having a long stay abroad, net cafes are always the best place for cheap & easy communication to your family.

And to round up all these safety precautions, do not forget to avail of cheap student travel insurance. Its rates have been adjusted to suit a student’s meager budget. So do not go off uncovered! Get a cheap student travel insurance as soon as you can!
